Bengaluru: Dakshina Kannada district-in-charge minister Dinesh Gundu Rao held a meeting at Vikasa Soudha on Tuesday to discuss ways to make the district a better tourist destination.

He noted that a good tourism environment would also aid in creating more jobs and bring the coastal district, especially Mangaluru, out of communal conflicts and look towards development.

He instructed tourism department officials to speed up the ongoing tourism development works in Dakshina Kannada. He sought information about development works of 12 beaches in Mangaluru and also directed officials to formulate projects in a public-private partnership model.

The Mogaveera Mahajana Sabha President, Beary, and Tulu Academy Presidents participated in the meeting, where they discussed problems over tourism development in the city and the possibility of giving more emphasis to setting up homestays in the district.
