MLC S L Bhoje Gowda said that there is a need to create awareness on the government programmes and facilities among the general public.

Speaking after inaugurating the district Ayush office in Chikkamagaluru on Saturday, he said the government has announced several welfare programmes and the officials should implement it effectively.

He added the people should maintain a healthy body through good food habits.

He further said that the chief minister has announced Rs 50 crore to convert the district hospital into a multi-speciality hospital.

“I will appeal to the chief minister to release funds to provide basic facilities at the Ayush hospital and also to solve the problem of shortage of staff in the Department of Ayush,” said the MLC.

District Ayush Officer Dr Geetha said the district has 48 Ayush hospitals, of which three are in taluk headquarters. As many as 42 doctors are serving in the hospitals.

Zilla Panchayat President Sujatha Krishnappa said the Ayush office was built at a cost of Rs 53 lakh.

She added that a yoga centre should be opened at the district Ayush office.
