Falling behind on development
Bagepalli and Gudibande taluks are rocky and arid taluks, while Chintamani is known as a commercial hub. The other taluks include Gauribidanur and Shidlaghatta. The district is at the forefront when it comes to sericulture and dairy. The water table in the region has dipped considerably.
On the development front too, the district doesn’t seem to have caught on with other regions. Gauribidanur is known for the famed Vidurashwatha, which is also known as the Jallianwala Bagh of the South.
Bhajantri Bheemappa, Naama Ashwathanarayana Sreshti, Narasappa, G T, Hanumantappa, Venkatagiriappa, Sulagitti Narasappa, Gacchannagaru Narasappa, Naagam Mallaiah, Gowramma, the names of martyrs who lost their lives at the freedom struggle at Vidurashwatha, also a well-known pilgrim centre in the region. Today, there stands a memorial for these martyrs.
