Mangaluru: Karnataka state government is yet to sign the memorandum of agreement (MoA) to identify beneficiaries for PM Awas Yojana-2, said DK MP Capt Brijesh Chowta.
He said “Congress always wants the poor to stay poor, as their politics is of deprivation and appeasement. Which is why the Karnataka Congress government has not yet signed the MoAto implement PMAY-U 2.0 as per the scheme guidelines. As of December 5, 29 States/UTs have signed the MoA but Karnataka has not signed” alleged Brijesh Chowta.
In a written response to the question raised by Captain Chowta regarding implementation of PMAY-2, MoS for Housing and Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu said that the identification of the beneficiaries is done by the respective State/UT Governments based on eligibility criteria defined in the scheme guidelines. As a pre-requisite, States/UTs were mandated to sign a MoA with the Ministry agreeing on implementation of reforms stipulated in the scheme guidelines and initiate the demand survey for further submission to the Ministry for sanctioning of houses.
“I hereby urge the Karnataka government to stop playing politics with the lives of people and initiate the process so that the poor and weaker sections of society especially the women who the scheme gives priority to are able to avail the benefits and have a roof above their heads” said Captain Brijesh Chowta.
“On one hand they empty the state coffers with their unscientific schemes, on the other they deprive the people of being part of PM Narendra Modi’s wave of "Vikas" by not proactively letting people benefit from the central schemes. Instead of crying foul all the time and trying to fool people, the state government should enable people to easily avail the benefits of the schemes of the union government” he added.
As per the PMAY-U 2.0, families belonging to economically weaker section /Low-Income Group/ middle-income group category living in urban areas, having no pucca house anywhere in the country, are eligible to purchase or construct a house under any of the verticals of PMAY-U 2.0 scheme as per their preferences. Preference under the scheme is given to widows, single women, persons with disabilities, senior citizens, transgenders, persons belonging to Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribes, minorities and other weaker and vulnerable sections of the society. Further, special focus will be given to Safai Karmi, street vendors identified under PM SVANidhi Scheme and different artisans under PM Vishwakarma Scheme, Anganwadi workers, building and other construction workers, residents of slums/chawls and other groups identified during operation of PMAY-U 2.0, said the MP.
