New Delhi/Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar has sought the Centre's support for a slew of infrastructure projects in Bengaluru.

He made the appeal during a meeting with Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, in New Delhi on Wednesday, according to statement from his office.

Separately, he met Manohar Lal Khattar, the Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, and discussed the progress of Bengaluru Metro and garbage management in the city.

Shivakumar, who is also the Bengaluru development minister, sought the Centre's support for the following four projects:

Upgradation of Bengaluru-Kanakapura Road (National Highway 209) to six lanes with service roads on both sides: He noted that the widening is necessary to meet the growing traffic demands of industrial areas like Harohalli.

Completion of roadwork up to Kaggalipura toll gate: He sought help in completing the stalled 7-km stretch from Art of Living Foundation to Kaggalipura toll gate, saying the project has been halted due to objections from the National Green Tribunal (NGT) although the required land has been acquired.

Compensation to farmers who lost land to the Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR) project: The DCM urged the Centre to promptly release compensation to farmers who lost land for the STRR, which commenced in 2019 but has run into delays.

Dedicated flyover from Hebbal Junction to airport: He also requested the construction of a dedicated flyover from Hebbal Junction to the airport (35 km), saying the existing elevated corridor is hindered by traffic signals and pedestrian crossings. The new flyover would facilitate smoother movement for airport commuters, local vehicles and heavy transport from industrial zones.
