The doctors' strike called by the Indian Medical Association, against the proposed constitution of the National Medical Council (NMC), received a mixed response in the region.
In Mysuru, the out-patient departments (OPD) of JSS, Kamakshi, Columbia Asia and Apollo BGS Hospitals were functioning. Hence, the strike did not have much of an impact on the people.
Shanthaveri Gopalagowda Hospital, Chandrakala Hospital, Basappa Memorial Hospital, Bibi Ayesha Milli Hospital and others extended support to the strike and their OPDs were closed. However, emergency services and pharmacies were open.
In the neighbouring districts, a large queue of patients was found waiting at government hospitals for treatment. As the hospital managements were aware of the strike, necessary arrangements were made at government hospitals to attend to the surge in patients and to provide necessary treatment.
However, most of the out-patient departments started functioning from 4 pm in all private hospitals, across the region.
