Bengaluru: Home Minister G Parameshwara, on Thursday, informed the Council that the government was setting up a dog squad to check the increase in the use of narcotics in prisons.
Replying to a question by BJP’s Prathap Simha Nayak over security in prisons, the minister said, “Despite surveillance, drugs are entering prisons and it has become difficult for humans to identify them. Hence, we are planning to set up dog squads.”
As per data shared by the minister, so far, 248 cases of illegal activities have been registered in various prisons and nine cases have been registered against 22 prison personnel.
The home minister said various security measures have been taken in prisons, including installation of 280 AI-powered cameras, jammers and baggage scanners.
“We have also deployed Karnataka Industrial Security Force in jails,” he said.
