Efforts should be made to efficiently use the water source at Krishnavaram valley, said legislator Y Sampangi.

Contractor Vishwanath had dug a pit near Phalasu Gangamma temple at Krishnavaram last week, hoping to find water. Next day, the pit was filled with water.

The legislator directed the Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board (KUWSDB) officials to create an action plan within a week to tap the water source at Krishnavaram Valley.

Surprise source

The legislator visited the spot on Saturday. The water table at Krishnavaram, which is located on the outskirts of Kolar Gold Fields, is satisfactory.

At a time when the entire State is reeling under drought, it can only be deemed a disappointing act by the officers concerned not to tap water source at Krishnavaram valley.

One can draw water at a depth of just three feet in the valley. However, apathy of officials concerned has made the water body useless.

“Instead of drilling borewells in the region which has witnessed reckless tapping of groundwater, it is wiser to revive water bodies,” agreed APMC president N R Vijayshankar.
