DPI staff to inspect schools over Kannada teaching

The government has instructed Public Instruction department officials to inspect schools in the state and confirm that Kannada is being taught either as a first language or second language in classes I to X. This is to ensure that government, aided and private state-syllabus schools are following the Kannada Language Learning Act, 2015.

The Act says that schools that did not have Kannada as a subject should compulsorily teach it either as a first or second language in stages, starting with class I in 2015-16.

In April, chairman of the Kannada Development Authority S G Siddaramaiah had written to principal secretary for primary and secondary education, seeking information on the implementation of the Act.
