Mangaluru: Mangaluru City Crime Branch (CCB) personnel arrested a drug peddler involved in the transportation and sale of MDMA from Bengaluru to Mangaluru.
Mangaluru Commissioner of Police Anupam Agrawal said that police have recovered 27 grams of MDMA from his possession. The arrested is Asif alias Achi (32), from Subhash Nagar, in Bantwal Taluk.
Acting on a tip-off, the police conducted a raid near Nehru Maidan in Mangaluru South Police Station limits. The arrested was attempting to sell it to the public and students.
The police seized 27 grams of MDMA worth Rs 1.35 lakh, along with a mobile phone and a digital weighing scale. A case has been registered at the Mangaluru South Police Station. There are three cases registered against the arrested -- in Surathkal police station in 2018, Vittal police station in 2021 and Bantwal town polioce station in 2023 -- related to drug peddling.
The Commissioner said that the arrested had purchased MDMA from Bengaluru and travelled to Mangaluru by bus. Efforts are on to arrest the others involved in drug peddling.
The raid was carried out under the guidance of CCB ACP Manoj Kumar Naik and was led by Police Inspector Rafiq K M.
