A delegation of private school managements met the Commissioner of the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) to express their concerns.

Quality books

Speaking to Deccan Herald, the Commissioner of DPI, Harish Gowda said “We will make sure that the textbooks are of the highest quality and will be published and made available well before the start of the next academic year.”

Earlier, some private schools managements, notably the Karnataka Unaided Schools Managements Association (KUSMA) had opposed a recent direction from the government that they use only books prepared and published by the DSERT.

They had opposed the move on the grounds that the textbooks were of low quality and were released late.

Another schools managements association, the Karnataka Associated Management of English Medium Schools too had expressed concern on the circular on grounds that the State Government’s demand to list the requirement of textbooks three months in advance will not be received well by the parents as they would not be willing to pay for the textbooks in advance.
