The sleuths caught him red-handed at a hotel on new Sayyaji Rao Road opposite Mysore Palace.R Mohan, a resident of K R Vanam, who is the complainant in the case, has accused the officer of demanding for Rs 50,000 as bribe for dropping his mother-in-law Padmavathi’s name from a charge sheet in a cheating case.He finally settled forRs 25,000.

Background
Padmavathi, who is one of the trustees of Karunya Charitable Trust in Kushalnagar, Kodagu district, is an accused in a cheating case registered at the Kushalnagar police station.
The Trust had collected a huge sum of money and is said to have handed over the same to an individual in Hosur.

However, the individual failed to return the money and a case was registered against Padmavathi and two other trustees. The details of the case is yet to be ascertained.
DySP Narayan, who is the investigating officer in the case,  had promised to drop Padmavathi’s name from the charge sheet in return of Rs four lakh, which he had received in two installments from Mohan recently.

Fresh demand
Narayan had made a fresh demand for Rs 50,000. Moreover, he had asked Mohan to handover the amount in Mysore.

The senior police officer, who was on his way to Hosur for an investigation, stopped at a hotel in Mysore, where he was later caught by the Lokayukta sleuths.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Lokayukta SP S E D’Souza.
