'e-filing gets good response in DK, Udupi'

He was speaking as the chief guest in a workshop on e-initiatives of the Commercial Tax Department organised by Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) here on Saturday. e-initiatives taken up by the Commercial Tax Department has been helping in a big way to the dealers as well as the employees of the tax department. “e-initiative has reduced the pressure which was otherwise lying on the shoulders of the department employees leading to some unintentional errors. e-filing, e-payment and other e-governance systems adopted by the department is highly useful as most of the dealers fall under 2 per cent tax payment category,” he said and added that initial hiccups prevailing in the online system would be overcome soon.

Assistant Commissioner of Commercial Taxes (e-filing) B N Biradar who carried out the workshop explained about the functioning of e-filing, e-SUGAM (Simple Uploading of Goods Arrival), e-VARADI and e-payment. Speaking about e-payment, he said that RBI has enabled all the public sector banks to perform the task, which was earlier limited to only four banks. “Agency commission of Rs 45 will be paid by RBI to all the banks for each payment,” he said.
Meanwhile, he also informed about the further e-initiatives namely -refund and e-registration that will be taken up by the Commercial Tax Department in a near future. The workshop also consisted of a live demonstration of e-SUGAMA and e-VARADI. KCCI President Srinivas S Kamath and Vice-president Mohandas Prabhu were present.
