Born at Devarayasamudra in Mulbagal in 1934, he held postgraduate degrees in Kannada, English, Hindi and Sanskrit.
He also had graduation degrees in Homeopathy, Allopathy and Ayurveda. He was awarded doctorate bythe Indian Medical Board in 1996 for his service to the medical field.
He also had obtained doctorate in English language. He had taught English for free to children in backward villages.

He was conferred with awards like the Dr B C Roy Memorial Award, First Class Hindi Pracharak, Presidential Seal of Honour award by American Biographical Institute, Kolar Rathna, Honourary Doctorate from National University of Seaburg of Europe, Excellency Award, Humanity Service Award, Basavajyothi Award and Excellent Civilian Award.
