The Legislative Council elections to the two teachers’ and two graduates’ constituencies on Friday passed off peacefully.
Chief Election Officer Anil Kumar Jha said the polling went on smoothly without any incidents of impersonation or voter malpractice.
As per the statistics collected by the Election Commission, the highest polling was reported from the North East Teachers’ Constituency with 60.30 per cent polling. The West Graduates’ constituency saw the next best polling with 54.94 per cent, followed by the South Graduates’ constituency, which recorded 52.25 per cent polling.
The Bangalore Teachers’ constituency polled the lowest number of votes with 44.88 per cent.
According to Jha, the Election Commission could not report any trends due to the improper maintenance of records of the MLC elections over the past many years.
“We do not have any possible computerised records to suggest whether there has been an increase in the turnout or not. The last elections to these constituencies were held six years ago,” he said.
The Election Commission has designated three counting centres in the State, with counting for the Bangalore Teachers’ constituency and the South East Graduates’ constituency to be held at the Government Arts and Science College in Bangalore on June 24.
The results will be announced on the same day.
