A city-based manufacturing company is making waves by selling battery equipped electric cycles both at home and abroad.

M M Technologies proprietor M M Ananth claims that battery equipped electric cycles can cover a distance of 30 km each, if charged for eight hours.

The electric cycle can cover a distance of 30 km including climbing slopes and reaches a top speed of 23 kmph. In a month, the electric cycle can cover a distance of 900 km for a cost of Rs 70. The cycle has been attached with a battery and an accelerator knob, which can be used to control the speed of the cycle.

Ananth said that their company has sold over 20,000 cycles as of now and has set a target of selling 1,000 cycles per month. They also have enquiries from Nairobi, Cape Town in South Africa and Ghana.

Cost-effective

He said the cycles, which are powered by a battery, costs around Rs 14,000. Interested persons can also get their cycles fitted with the battery which costs Rs 9,000.

Mentioning that the technology is completely indigenous, Ananth said the battery would last for two years if used on a regular basis.

The most important advantage unlike other electric motoscooters, which run on battery, is that in case the charge runs out, people can always pedal to reach their destination.

M M Technologies is located at SM-160, third main road, Hebbal Industrial Estate in Mysore.
