Somwarapet: The carcass of a tusker, estimated to be 50 years old, was discovered near the Jenukallu reserve forest in Somwarpet of Kodagu district.

It is suspected that the elephant may have died 15 days ago, as the carcass is almost decomposed. The incident came to light on Wednesday when forest watchers visited the area.

ACF Gopal and RFO Shailendra visited the site on Thursday.

Veterinarian Dr Chettiyappa conducted a post-mortem examination of the carcass. The tusks of the deceased elephant were removed.
