A wild elephant which was recently captured and brought to Mattigodu elephant camp succumbed to injuries on Sunday.

The 50-year-old elephant was captured at a coffee plantation in Mayamudi.

The elephant had injuries on its body and was seriously ill. Though experts provided treatment to the elephant, it did not respond to the medication and breathed its last on Sunday, Range Forest Officer Kiran Kumar said at Mattigodu elephant camp.

DCF Shivashankar and ACF Shripathi conducted a spot inspection. Veterinary Officer Majid conducted a post-mortem of the elephant.
