Elephants uprooted a coconut tree at a coffee plantation in Bidarahalli.

Wild elephants that strayed into Bidarahalli and surrounding villages in Mudigere taluk, early on Saturday morning, have destroyed crops.

A herd of elephants had been camping at Horatti, Kenjige and Khatlekhan forest area in Mudigere for the last four to five days. It also destroyed crops at Bidarahalli, Basavanahalli, Lokavalli and other villages on Saturday.

The coffee plants, arecanut and coconut trees have been damaged. About 50 coffee plants and coconut trees have been damaged in the coffee plantation belonging to one B D Jagannath.

Fear has gripped farmers and labourers, who are hesitant to take up farming activities in the plantations, following the elephant menace.
