Endosulfan files amendment plea in HC

The company said that the order prohibiting the sale and use of endosulfan was based on ad hoc research findings obtained from the Agriculture Universities in Raichur and Dharwad.

‘Based on opinions’

Noting that the action was purportedly based on opinions with regard to the availability of an alternative insecticide, the applicants said the government must have strong reasons to believe that use of a registered pesticide is likely to involve risks to human beings or animals.

On the Government Order citing deformities and the order passed by Kerala, the applicants said there had been no such incidents in Karnataka.

When government counsel Nagashri sought time to file objections, Justice B S Patil adjourned the matter, directing the State to file objections by Monday.
