The government has given permission to start English medium from first standard in 20 government schools in Chikkamagaluru district from the academic year, said DDPI Shivananjayya.
He said that the government had decided to start English medium in 1,000 government schools in the state.
Teachers are trained in English during the summer vacation. Eight public schools have been sanctioned to the district, he added.
He said due to the efforts of the teachers, the pass percentage in SSLC has increased to 82% this year up from 72% last year.
The DDPI said Shala Prarambhotsava will be held on May 29. Measures will be taken to distribute textbooks, uniforms, shoes and socks during Shala Prarambhotsava.
