Enrolment for Aadhaar phase 2 in October

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) will begin second phase of Aadhaar enrolment in the State this October.

The decision was announced on Saturday, following a meeting of the UIDAI Chairperson Nandan Nilekani with Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar.

The phase 2 will be taken up in 21 districts of the State and an estimated population of 3.90 crore is expected to be covered. It is likely to be completed by March 2013.

Under the phase 1, as many as 1.41 crore people have been covered and it accounts for 23 per cent of State’s population. In Mysore, the Aadhaar coverage is 95 per cent and it is 93 per cent in Tumkur.

A decision has also been taken to start a pilot project in Mysore and Tumkur, under which government services like ration card, housing finance, social security programmes, social welfare scholarships will be implemented through Aadhaar numbers.
