The Kambala organisers should file objections by impleading in the case filed by PETA against Kambala event in Supreme Court, said advocate Rajashekar, who had argued in favour of Kambala organisers in High Court.

PETA India had filed a petition seeking to strike down Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Karnataka Amendment) Ordinance, 2017, that allows organising of Kambala. “One needs to be cautious and ensure there is no legal hurdle for organising Kambala,” he said.

Speaking at a special meeting organised by Zilla Kambala Samithi on Sunday, he said the PETA in its petition had made Central and Karnataka state governments respondents. “In this background, all efforts should be made to ensure that the High Court General and Solicitor Generals argue in favour of Kambala. All relevant documents should be furnished by the committee, which should strictly adhere to the conditions laid down by the state government,” he said.

Yermal Rohith Hegde urged Samithi members to organise Kambala within legal framework. Fitness certificate for buffaloes should be obtained from a veterinary doctor, he added.
