The state government has proposed relaxing the upper age limit for ex-servicemen by three years for gazetted probationer recruitment.

The Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR) has proposed the following amendment to Rule 5 of the Karnataka Recruitment of Gazetted Probationers (Appointment by Competitive Examinations) Rules, 1997: “...the upper age limit shall be relaxed in the case of a candidate who is an ex-serviceman by three years plus the number of years of service rendered by him in the Armed Forces of the Union.”

While the upper age limit is 35 years, the rules already provide for relaxation of up to five years for candidates belonging to SC/ST/Category-1 of OBC (it is three years for other OBC categories).

Relaxation by 10 years is provided for widows or physically-handicapped. The rules also mention relaxation for ex-servicemen, but did not define the years.
