Participating in the the 16th National Voters’ Day programme organised by the Election Commission of India, Gehlot said that the concept of one vote- one voice- and one responsibility constitutes the ‘soul of democracy’.

“By granting universal suffrage, the Indian Constitution has given the people supreme authority over administration. Voting is not merely a legal right but also a constitutional duty of citizens in a democracy,” he noted.

Explaining that the National Voters’ Day inspires everyone to take a pledge, he said: “Uphold the democratic values advocated in the Constitution. We must vote, encourage others to vote and undertake our duty towards the nation.”
