'Facilities for disabled misutilised'

He was inaugurating a free legal awareness camp on rights of disabled and a workshop on factors leading to disability at Government Model Higher Primary School at Vemagal in the taluk on Sunday.

Performing daily chores and activities is a big challenge for people suffering from disability. The State government gives Rs 400 as monthly allowance to people who have 40 percent of disability and Rs 1,000 to people having 75 percent of disability, he said.

People with disability also have reservations in jobs. However, in order to avail any of the above mentioned facilities provided by the State government they can approach the Directorate, he added.

Disability can be detected and averted before the birth of the baby, informed Primary Health Care Centre medical officer D Arun Kumar. President of Association for the Disabled R Thammanna and others were present on the occasion.
