Electronic City Police arrested two persons from Bettadasanapura near Electronic City on charges of trying to circulate fake notes.
The arrested Akbar Hussain, 26, a resident of Varthur and Nazir Rehaman, 23, a resident of Sarjapur, are said to be natives of Assam and settled in City around ten years ago.
Acting on a tip off, the police went to Bettadasanapura and arrested the duo, recovering 36 counterfeit notes of Rs 1,000 denomination and 76 counterfeit notes of Rs 500 denomination, all totalling Rs 74,000.
According to police, it is suspected that the notes may have come from across the border as the duo used to frequent Assam. It is also suspected that a few persons used to come down to City to hand over the counterfeit notes for circulation.
