Chikkamagaluru: A 58-year-old farmer was killed in an elephant attack at Gurupura in Tanigebail forest range limits in Tarikere taluk, Chikkamagaluru district.

The deceased was identified as Venkatesh. The incident occurred when he had been to tie a cow in his plantation situated in front of his house on Sunday night.

He failed to spot the elephant. As he approached, the elephant lifted him with its trunk and smashed him against a tree. Venkatesh died on the spot.

Forest department officials visited the spot, where locals expressed outrage and demanded measures to prevent elephant menace.
