Farmer killed in fire accident in Karnataka's Khanapur villageNandgad police have registered a case of accidental death.

Belagavi: A farmer was charred to death while attempting to douse fire to the sugarcane seedlings in his agricultural land at Karalga village in Khanapur taluk on Thursday evening.

The deceased has been identified as one Tukaram Ravalu Pawar (75) resident of Karalga village.

Police said Pawar had harvested sugarcane in his land and sent to sugar factory for crushing and had maintained part of the crop to be used as seedlings.

He had set fire to the stubble, but it spread near the seedlings too. While attempting to douse the fire and prevent the seedlings from burning, he got trapped as the fire spread due to strong winds and was charred to death. Incident took place in the evening in between 4.30 pm to 5 pm.

Nandgad police have registered a case of accidental death.
