Farmers protest against acquisition of additional land to lay road from Chikmagalur railway station via Belur.

Flaying the authorities for marking 20 ft additional area for laying connectivity road from Chikmagalur railway station via Beloor, the farmers stopped the heavy vehicles deployed for executing the work, on Friday.

The farmers had already handed over 80 ft land for the cause of the road and they have even received compensation for the land.

However, on Friday the farmers discovered that the officials have been marking 100 ft for the road as against the initial plan of 80 ft.

The farmers congregated to the spot and stopped the JCBs and other machines used for the road work demanding winding up of the work.

Urban Development Authority former president Ranganath said that it was only for the development of the region that the farmers had willingly parted from their land.

Unfortunately, the authorities have deceived the farmers by marking additional 20 ft land clandestinely.

He said that if the officials are planning to lay 100 ft road, then the farmers must be given compensation for the additional 20 ft land.
