Bengaluru: The government’s move to reduce fees for some of the core branches at government engineering colleges seems to have clicked, with colleges witnessing decent increase in admissions this year.
This year, to attract students to core branches like Civil, Mechanical, Automobiles, Silk Technology and Textiles, the department of higher education announced a 50% fee waiver at government-run colleges.
As per data available from Karnataka Examination Authority, automobiles branch witnessed an increase in admissions from previous year’s 27% to 40% this time.
However, civil engineering has seen just 1% increase with 52% as against 51% recorded during 2024. The mechanical engineering stream recorded 2% increase at 35% this year.
Silk technology and textiles have seen a steep increase in admissions, finishing at 60% and 70%, respectively. In 2024, silk technology had recorded 40%, while the figure was 44% for textiles.
