The filing of nomination papers for the elections to the four seats of Rajya Sabha (RS) and seven seats of the Legislative Council commences on Monday.
However, none of the three prominent political parties has finalised the candidates for either of the elections.
The polling for both the elections - RS and the Council - will be on June 19 and the counting of votes too will be on the same day.
The last date for filing the papers is June 9.
The MLAs are the voters for both the elections.
The Congress is in a position to win two RS seats and the BJP one seat on their strength in the Assembly.
With the help of the JD(S) members and Independents, the Congress or the BJP can win one more seat.
In all probability, the Congress may prefer sitting RS members S M Krishna and B K Hariprasad as candidates this time too.
The party is keen on fielding R Chidambaram as the third candidate. He can win provided the JD(S) supports.
The BJP may field Union Minister of State Nirmala Sitharaman as the candidate. The State party leaders’ wish of fielding Prabhakar Kore may not materialise, it is said.
In the case of the Council elections, the Congress can easily win four seats. There are too many aspirants for the seats, including KPCC chief G Parameshwara.
Parameshwara and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had held two rounds of meetings for the selection of candidates. However, no consensus emerged.
