According to S K Venugopal, IGP, Excise Enforcement, Shimoga police have taken him into custody after obtaining his body warrant from Judicial Magistrate First Class, Shimoga on Sept. 16. They are taking him back to Shimoga where further action against him will be initiated. The accused also faces seven cases in Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat under Arms Act and other related laws enacted between 1991-94. R R Khan, the late brother of the accused also faced several cases under Arms Act and was murdered by his opponents.
Mehmood Khan, former Secretary of Madhya Pradesh Pradesh Congress Committee, who is also believed to be the kingpin of an inter-State illicit liquor trading racket has been arrested by the local police in Indore on September 14.
Police have informed Deccan Herald that the arrested Mehmood Khan was suspended from the primary membership of Congress party few days ago for six years on disciplinary grounds.
