A fire broke out in a scrap godown at Jeppinamogaru late on Sunday night.

Mangaluru: A fire broke out at a scrap godown in Jeppinamogaru on the outskirts of the city on Sunday night, destroying the items inside the shop.

The shop belongs to Nausheer of Jeppinamogaru. Fire and Emergency Services personnel said that they received a call at 11.40 pm. Three fire tenders from Kadri, Banrwal and Pandeshwar rushed to the spot. Later, fire tenders from MCF and HPCL also visited the spot to douse the fire. There were scrap items, furniture and scrap electronic goods in the godown. The cause for the fire is yet to be ascertained. According to the owner, the loss is estimated around Rs 50 lakh. The fire and emergency service personnel are yet to estimate the loss.

The CCTV footage is being verified to know the cause of the fire.

On getting information about the fire, Mangalore city South MLA Vedavyas Kamath rushed to the spot.
