Five convicted in dowry case

The Fifth Additional and District Sessions Court has sentenced five people to two years imprisonment and has imposed Rs 50,000 as fine in a dowry harassment case.

The court has convicted Nasir Ahmed, his parents and sisters for harassing, Ahmed’s wife for dowry. Ahmed, a resident of Togaribele Beedi here had abducted and married the girl. After the marriage, Ahmed along with his family members, started torturing the girl for dowry. Due to harassment, the victim’s parents had offered Rs 1 lakh as dowry, but, Ahmed continued to pester her for more.

Unable to bear the torture, the girl had filed a police complaint, who had submitted a charge sheet against the family members.
