Police inspected the spot where a car and a crop-cutting machine collided head-on at Bilebavi Cross in Talikote taluk in Vijayapura district on Friday.

A head-on collision between a car and a crop-cutting machine near Bilebhavi Cross in Talikote taluk on Friday left five people on board the car dead. The victims, residents of Aliyabad in Vijayapura, were returning from Yadgir district when tragedy struck.

Ningappa Patil (55), Shantavva Shankar Patil (45), 65-year-old Beemashi Sankanaala, 45-year-old Shashikala Jainapur, and Dileep Patil (50) had been to a village called Agni in Yadgir to see a prospective groom for the family.

They were returning to Vijayapura via the Hunasagi-Talikote route when the car collided with the crop-cutting machine.

Police had to use an earth-moving machine to extricate the bodies from the car. The mortal remains of the victims were sent to the Basavanabagewadi Community Health Centre for postmortem.
