Five of family killed in road mishap near Mangaluru

Five people were killed and seven injured after a truck collided with a jeep on a strectch of a National Highway at Uppala in the Kasaragod district of Kerala in the early hours of Monday.

The deceased, all belonging to a family, were residents of Ullal in Karnataka’s Dakshina Kannada district.

The deceased are Bee Fatima (65), Nazima (38), Asma (30), Imtiaz (35) and Mushtaq (41).

The group which, included children, was returning home after attending a function in Palakkad when the jeep they were travelling in was rammed by a goods-laden truck. The incident occurred around 6 am.

Preliminary reports said the driver of the truck lost control of the vehicle after one of its tyres burst. An official in the Manjeshwar Police Station told DH that the injured were admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru.
