Chitradurga: Five senior citizens from Bengaluru were killed and one sustained grievous injuries after the car they were travelling in rammed a stationary lorry on NH-48 near Tamatakallu in Chitradurga district on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as N S Rudraswamy (69), Chandrahas (67), Shanthamurthy (70), a retired BMTC employee, Srinivas (69) and Mallikarjun (70). Chidambarachar (69), who suffered serious injuries, is undergoing treatment at Chitradurga district hospital.

The accident happened when the victims were returning to Bengaluru after visiting the Renuka Yellamma Temple in Saundatti. Chandrahas, who was behind the wheel, lost control of the car and rear-ended the lorry.
