The dead have been identified as Rama Rao (68), Prakash Rao (38), Lalita (28), Jyothi (25), and car driver Sadanand (40). All hailed from Venkatapur in Medak district of Andhra Pradesh and were proceeding on a pilgrimage, police said. It is said the accident occurred as the driver dozed off at the wheel.
The car plunged into a 20-foot deep Mudabool branch canal and all the passengers drowned.
