Hubballi: In a tragic incident five people were killed on the spot in a head-on collision between their car and a truck on the National Highway-52 (Hubballi-Vijayapura highway) near Ingalahalli Cross of Hubballi Rural taluk on Tuesday morning.

According to police, the deceased have been identified as Shweta (29), Anjali (26), Sandeep (26), Vittal (55), and Shashikala (40), all hailing from Sagara in Shivamogga district. The bodies have been shifted to KMC-RI in Hubballi.

Dharwad Superintendent of Police Gopal Byakod and Hubballi Rural Police Inspector Murugesh Channannavar visited the spot and conducted an inspection.

According to police, the truck, heading towards Hubballi from Navalgund side collided with the car, which was going towards Bagalkot from Sagar. Due to the severity of the accident, all five passengers in the car died on the spot. The truck driver is reported to be absconding.

A case has been registered at the Hubballi Rural Police Station.
