Five killed in road accident near Tiptur

Five people were killed on the spot in a head-on collision between a Maruti Swift car and a vegetable-laden goods vehicle on National Highway-206 at Konanakavalu near Biligere in the taluk on Tuesday night.

The deceased have been identified as Jayanna (36), Umesh (43), and Mahalingappa, all residents of Gudigondinahalli in the taluk; and Renukaiah (43), and Niranjanmurthy (55), both natives of Timlapur.

All the five victims were occupants of the car.The driver of the goods vehicle and another man, who suffered injuries, were rushed to the taluk government hospital in the town.
The accident occurred when the victims were returning home after attending the wedding reception of a relative of Jayanna.
