Five youths were killed and as many sustained grievous injuries in a gruesome highway accident involving an MUV and a lorry near Kasturirangappanahalli Gate on National Highway 4 near here in the wee hours of Wednesday.

The victims, natives of Ambur in Vellore district of Tamil Nadu, were returning home after a pleasure trip to Goa in a Qualis. Saddam Hussain (22), Tousif Ahmed (24), Shahrukh (20) and Saddam (21) were killed on the spot while Asif Ahmed (22) died at a hospital in Chitradurga.

The injured Syed Niran, Mohammad Ali, Rihan, Irfan and Abdul Rehman are being treated at the district hospital in Chitradurga.

“A group of 10 friends from Tamil Nadu had gone to Goa after Ramzan. On Wednesday, they were returning home in an MUV. Their vehicle rammed into a stationary lorry. The impact of the crash was such that four youths were killed on the spot,” said Rural SI Srinivas.
