Madikeri: The IMD has forecast heavy rains in the catchment areas of Harangi reservoir in Kodagu. Huge quantity of water will be released to the river, Kaveri Neeravari Nigama Ltd (KNNL) has said. A flood alert has been sounded in the region accordingly.
As there has been a significant rise in the inflow of the reservoir and the storage level is expected to reach its maximum level, the water could be released at any time, a press release said.
People living in the proximity of the river bank have been alerted and are asked to remain cautious.
The water storage level of Harangi reservoir on Tuesday was 2851.13 feet. Maximum level of the dam is 2,859 feet. There is an inflow of 1,541 cusecs. There are only eight feet left for the dam to reach its maximum capacity.
Rains continued in Madikeri city on Tuesday as well.
Virajpet received 5 cm rains while a rainfall of 4 cm each was recorded in Madikeri and Ponnampet.
