In an attempt to facilitate passengers of the luxurious intercity connection Flybus- the service from Mysore to Bangalore International Airport Ltd, Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) will be providing free transport for them in city buses in Mysore.
The decision was taken following a meeting conducted by KSRTC with hoteliers, industrialists, representatives form Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation and others, here, on Thursday.
B V Srinivas, Divisional Controller (Rural), Mysore, said, the idea was to concentrate on the users of the Flybus from residential areas.
A bus will be dedicated to ply passengers between Infosys and Suburban Bus Stand via major hotels and landmarks like Silent Shores Resorts, Ruchi The Prince, Roost, Greens, Jaladarshini, Quorum, Metropole, Mourya and others.
Chennabasappa, Chief Manager, Marketing, KSRTC, said, the hoteliers had assured to display the information of the Flybus service at their respective hotels. They would also make people aware of the service, which is more affordable than a taxi.
He said, other than the regular route, passengers will also be picked from the hotels in the vicinity, on request. “These services will start within two days,” he added.
Citing that there were no hurdles in connecting services to the noon departure (2 pm) of the Flybus from city, he said, the department was trying to figure out providing connectivity to passengers for the midnight (2 am) service.
Chennabasappa said that hoteliers had also suggested that information of the hotels in Mysorebe displayed inside the Flybus. “Advertisements of any firms in city will also be displayed in coming days,” he added.
It has been discussed with the KSTDC to popularise the Flybus service along with their two packages. “We are expecting the service will pick pace during Dasara,” he noted.
In the face to face interaction with the passengers, he said, KSRTC found out that taxi was the most preferred vehicle for commuting to airport and the average age of passengers travelling to BIA was 31 years. On an average air passenger at Bangalore and Hyderabad Airport fly 4 times in a year while passengers at Chennai Airport travel 5 times a year.
Taking into consideration the feedback and surveys, the bus was introduced to facilitate passengers a luxury service at an affordable cost, he added.
