Two-day meet to conclude today

Former director of Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) V Prakash on Thursday said that a “grandmother’s” touch was vital in ensuring nutritious rich food to children.

Addressing a gathering of experts and students of human development and food nutrition, at the opening of a two-day meet organised by the University of Mysore, at Rani Bahadur hall in the city, Prakash said that India boasts of the traditional knowledge of over 5,000 years on food, while China could retrace its steps towards food history to only about 542 years.

India and China are the only two nations to have the unique fabric of food culture. Prakash said one cannot ensure nutritional support to the body by eating food alone, but, it was also important to exercise to guarantee health benefits. He strongly recommending the authorities concerned to think in the direction of food safety and nutrition.

It is imperative, said Prakash, as one child dies every three minutes due to the lack of nutritious food.

Vice-chancellor, University of Mysore, Prof K S Rangappa inaugurated Indian Association for Human Development and Family Studies, an initiative of the department of human development.
