Hunsur: The Forest department has launched an operation to drive the tiger deep into the forest on Tuesday. The tiger sighted at Hyrige village had created panic among the farm labourers, in Hunsur taluk, Mysuru district, on Monday.
Around 25 personnel, along with tamed elephants from Kodagu - Bheema and Zoo Abhimanyu are being used in the operation to drive the tiger deep into the forest, to ensure that it does not return to the villages on the borders of forest.
A six-year-old tiger was spotted at the farm belonging to Thammegowda at around 2 pm, on Monday. The labourers ran helter-skelter for their life upon sighting the tiger hiding in the farm. It was immediately brought to the notice of the Forest Department.
The Forest Department personnel, under the guidance of DCF Mohammed Faiyaz and Range Forest Officer Nandakumar conducted an operation and were successful in driving the tiger to Muthurayanahosahalli range, by around 7 pm.
However, as the tiger was chased into the peripheral area of the forest, the department continued their operation to drive the tiger deep into the forest, on Tuesday.
According to the DCF, a tiger was spotted recently at a village under Gurupura panchayat limits. The department had placed a cage, but it was futile. It is suspected that it might be the same tiger. The department has taken up the operation to chase the tiger into the forest, he said.
