The Forest department has finally pulled up its socks after tamed elephant Ranga died in a road mishap near Mathigodu elephant camp, under Anechowkuru range recently. The department has decided to instal CCTV cameras to monitor the movement of vehicles.

Besides, three teams will patrol the 12 km stretch from Anechowkuru checkpost to Virajpet checkpost. The patrol team will intercept speeding vehicles and warn the drivers.

Nagarahole Tiger Project Director and Assistant Conservator of Forest Prasannakumar said, CCTV cameras will be installed at Alaluru, Thithimathi and Virajpet checkposts. The department had written a letter to the PWD in 2015, requesting to lay speed-breakers at a distance of one kilometre each. He said that there is no plan to relocate Mathigodu elephant camp and added that security will be strengthened.
