Former chief secretary M Sankaranarayanan, 83, passed away in the city on Saturday.
Sankaranarayanan held the post in the 1990-91 period. Sankaranarayanan had objections to promotion being granted by the then chief minister to officials who were being probed by the Lokayukta. He was transferred abruptly and it led to a petition by him in the Supreme Court, seeking the right for public servants to inform the public about the proceedings in government.
His father Justice Govinda Menon was India's chief prosecutor at the Tokyo war trials before being appointed to the Supreme Court.
Sankaranarayanan is survived by his wife Prabha Sankaranarayanan and two sons, Govind, Gopal, and their families.
