Former Goa MLA Lavoo Mamledar dies after being assaulted by auto-driver in Karnataka's BelagaviPolice have detained the auto-driver and a case of murder has been registered against him.

Belagavi: Former Goa MLA Lavoo Mamledar died after being assaulted by a auto-driver at Khade Bazaar here in broad daylight on Saturday.

Mamledar (68), former MLA from Phonda in Goa had camped at Hotel Srinivas at Khade Bazaar. While he was coming out of the hotel premises in his car there was an altercation with an auto-driver who alleged that the politician's car had brushed with his vehicle.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Rohan Jagadeesh informed DH that after the altercation between Mamledar and the auto-driver, the latter assaulted him on his temple.

Mamledar walked inside the hotel and collapsed at the reception. He was rushed to Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences District Hospital for treatment, where he was declared dead after diagnosis.

Auto-driver has been detained and will be identified later. We are registering a case of murder, police said.
