Belagavi: Former MLA Kakasaheb Patil passed away due to ill health at a private hospital here in the early hours of Wednesday (June 18).
He was 71 years old. A native of Walki village in Nippani taluk, Patil was associated with Congress.
He had been elected from the Nippani assembly constituency for three terms in 1999, 2004 and 2008 elections.
Few days ago, due to age-related ill health, Patil was admitted at a private hospital for treatment. He breathed his last in the early hours of Wednesday.
Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah also consoled demise of the former Congress MLA.
"The passing of Kakasaheb Patil, former MLA of the Nippani Assembly constituency and a senior leader, has caused deep sorrow. The demise of a straightforward, people-centric, and astute leader is a great loss not just to the political arena but also for the entire society. May the departed soul find peace. I pray that his family finds the strength to bear this loss," said CM Siddaramaiah.
Remains of Patil will be kept at Municipal High School ground in Nippani to allow people pay their last respects.
Last rites will be held at his native village Walki at 3:00 pm.
Patil is survived by a son and daughter.
